World First - Windows CE devices get EMV transaction processing with new software from CreditCall.
Ausust, 2003 -- Much has been written about "Chip and PIN" recently – the new standard for credit and debit card transactions that is undergoing trials in Northampton, and which will be fully mandated in the UK from January 2005. UK-based cashless payment specialist CreditCall Communications produce an exceptional family of software products to allow new and existing transaction terminals – the ATMs and EPOS devices that read our cards - to be compliant with this new transaction system. The EMV (Europay/Mastercard and Visa) standard is set to drastically reduce credit card fraud caused by card copying and "skimming".
CreditCall have just launched a new addition to their already acclaimed EMV range, this time aimed specifically at Windows CE.
EmvX CE™ enables these Windows CE-based devices to perform EMV Level 2 (Chip and PIN) transactions when suitably equipped with an EMV Level 1 card reader and PINpad. Windows CE is being increasingly used in ATMs, EPOS systems and Set Top Boxes as well as the latest generation of handheld PDA (Personal Digital Assistant) devices.
Nick McGarvey, Managing Director of CreditCall Communications, said: "EmvX CE™ allows developers and system integrators to capitalise on the Windows CE platform for live transaction processing. Windows CE has become an increasingly popular operating system over the last few years, bringing distinct advantages to the fast evolving embedded systems marketplace. Its ease of use, the availability of development tools and the fact that it is backed by Microsoft, establish it as a common standard."
The EmvX CE™ Toolkit is aimed primarily at Software Developers, Integrators and OEMs who need to add EMV Level 2 compliance into their Windows CE applications. EmvX CE™ is based on the CreditCall CardEaseEMV™ certified EMV Kernel which comforms to the lastest version 4.0 standard with Errata testing. The Toolkit is low cost, rapid, to integrate with Embedded Visual Basic and Embedded Visual C++ environments via a standard COM interface. All major microprocessors are supported including the Intel XScale (ARM), Intel x86, MIPS and Hitachi SH families.
Jeremy Gumbley, Development Director of CreditCall explained, "The EmvX CE Toolkit runs natively on the Windows CE platform meaning it is faster and more reliable than solutions based on interpreted languages such as Java which in turn helps to maintain platform stability".
